All leather used to manufacture our range of “vellies shoes or veldskoen” is a by-product from the meat industry and have been sourced from sustainable resources in Southern Africa, so for a true South African product, look no further!

The name “vellies” comes from the Afrikaans word for skin, “vel,” referring to the leather that the shoes are made of. The word “vel” was later changed to “veld,” which means field, and the traditional Veldskoen was born.

Taking care of your veldskoen / “Vellies” is important to keep them looking new

“Vellies” require a little bit of love and care to ensure that they look good for longer. As we want your Peace of Afrika vellies shoes to last as long as possible, please read through the tips below to find out how you can take care of your shoes:

  1. Invest in the right leather care products – and treat your “vellies” regularly. Suede and leather uppers require different products, so if you are unsure about the products you require, ask around and read the label. A little care will take your “vellies” a long way.
  2. If your “vellies” get wet (even though this is not recommended), let them dry out naturally – do not put them in direct sunlight, however.
  3. Wear your veldskoen or “vellies” wherever you go. They can be dressed up or down, but the more you wear them, the more comfortable they will be.
